Showcasing Our Agriculture and Aquaculture Industries

From This Rock Culinary Tour Gets Underway Tonight in Port aux Basques

The From This Rock Culinary Tour begins a series of fine dining events tonight in Port aux Basques, providing patrons with the opportunity to sample fresh, local food. The tour, organized by the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Chefs Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, is supported by the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency and the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Newfoundland and Labrador is blessed with fertile land and diverse fishing and aquaculture industries which enable residents to pursue and find new opportunities. This tour links stakeholders within each industry. Chefs discover the kinds of foods available in Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition, producers are connected to new markets and consumers become familiar with the provinces agriculture and seafood industries.
- The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency.

The tour, which ends November 5 in St. Johns, consists of a team of chefs who travel across the province to create five-course meals at various locations.

The association is very excited to launch the From This Rock Culinary Tour 2015. These chefs give of their time to travel out across the province in an effort to promote the delicious foods our land and water provide for us. They meet the people who grow and harvest this food and build the foundation on which we can build culinary tourism. Last year we served over 5,000 plates of food on the tour and this year we aim for over 6,000 plates, all local food. This is a very exciting time to be involved in the restaurant industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Nancy Brace, Executive Director, Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador

The first culinary tour, held in 2012, travelled to six locations. In 2015, the number has grown to 12 locations and the tour will travel to Labrador for the first time.

The From This Rock Culinary Tour and the partnership between the chefs association, the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency and the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is the perfect marriage of like minds. Its a win-win situation for chefs, producers and the province.
- Roary MacPherson, Executive Chef, Canadian Culinary Federation
