Media Advisory: Minister to Announce New Annual Animal Hero Award
The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, will announce a new annual Animal Hero Award tomorrow (Wednesday, October 7), at 9:00 a.m., at the NL West SPCA Shelter (Telecom building) located on Route 440, North Shore of the Bay of Islands. Minister Granter will be joined by Dr. Hugh Whitney, Chief Veterinary Officer, and Lynn Cadigan, Animal Welfare Consultant, with the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency.
Following the announcement, Minister Granter will present the first of two inaugural Animal Hero Awards, at 1:00 p.m., at the Isle aux Morts Community Centre, located at 68 Route 470. Blanford Billard, chairperson of the Isle aux Morts Heritage Society, will join Minister Granter for the presentation.
The Animal Hero Award was created by the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency in partnership with the Newfoundland and Labrador Veterinary Medical Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador SPCA to recognize acts of kindness in society towards animals or acts of bravery by animals towards people.
