Media Advisory: Minister to Attend Sportfest Announcement in Corner Brook
The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will participate in a Sport Newfoundland and Labrador announcement tomorrow (Thursday, April 16) regarding Sportfest 2015, which will be held on the west coast of the province in June. The announcement will take place at the Corner Brook Civic Centre (Annex Lobby) beginning at 12:00 noon.
June’s Sportfest will be the first time the event has been held on the west coast since the program was initiated five years ago. It will also include, for the first time, a partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee to host a special event in conjunction with the regular Sportfest program.
Sportfest provides an opportunity for children and adults to explore a new sport, or learn more about a favourite activity, in the pursuit of a healthy, active lifestyle. The Provincial Government provides $25,000 to support Sportfest, through the Department of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development.
