Improving Road Infrastructure for Communities and Families

CBS Bypass to Undergo Upgrades this Construction Season

Through an investment of over $695,000 under the Provincial Roads Program, various sections of the CBS Bypass (Peacekeepers Way) will be upgraded and repaved this construction season. The contract for the work has been awarded to Municipal Construction Ltd of Paradise.

“Having well-developed transportation infrastructure such as highways, bridges, and ferries is critical to successful communities and regions and an important part of our government’s Population Growth Strategy. Road upgrades and repairs are happening across the province and an additional $6 million has been budgeted this year to ensure critical road work is addressed. The CBS Bypass, soon to be known as Peacekeepers Way, is an important transportation link and the upgrades and paving will improve driving conditions for residents of CBS.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador

The following work will be completed this season:

  • Rehabilitation, cold planing and repaving sections of Route 2 from the TCH to Manuels Access Road;
  • Upgrading Route 2 eastbound ramp at the TCH interchange; and,
  • Installation of storm sewer on Route 60 at Monument Lane.

“So far this construction season approximately 40 tenders have been called, most of which have already been awarded. The result is as substantial amount of repaving, repair and maintenance projects which have already begun or will get underway in the weeks ahead. This level of work is on par with previous years, as we continue to work with our industry partners to make the most of our short construction season.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

Budget 2015 allocated $317.9 million in priority infrastructure projects, including $204 million for provincial roads, bridges and other road work. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.
