Recreation Infrastructure for Communities and Families
Premier Participates in Contract Signing for Harbour Grace Multi-Purpose Facility
Recreational facilities are important hubs for communities and regions, and offer great opportunities for the health and well-being of residents. Today, the Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, joined with the Town Council of Harbour Grace to sign a contract for the construction of the Harbour Grace multi-purpose facility.
“Our government made a commitment to the people of Harbour Grace and today we are delivering upon that commitment. We continue to demonstrate that we recognize what is important to residents, families and communities throughout our province. Today marks the beginning for this $21 million facility which is just one more example of our commitment to making strategic, responsible investments in our towns and communities.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
The Harbour Grace multi-purpose facility will include a single-pad NHL-size ice surface as well as a community room and a kitchen. This facility will incorporate the Canada Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines, striving to meet the Silver certification standard which will incorporate the most appropriate sustainable energy designs and techniques available.
“Since 2008, our government has invested over $800 million in municipal infrastructure to provide enhanced quality services to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. This new multi-purpose facility is an example of the types of projects that we invest in and will provide greater access to sports programs for the community and region, and will allow the town to host tradeshows as well as youth and seniors organizations and business events.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs
The Harbour Grace multi-purpose facility will cost approximately $21.5 million with the Provincial Government investing over $15 million toward the facility. The contractor for the multi-purpose facility is Pomerleau.
“I am delighted that we are moving forward on the facility here in Harbour Grace. This new multi-purpose facility will provide quality programs and services to the people of Harbour Grace and the surrounding region. I thank the Provincial Government for their support.”
