Collaborating with Citizens for Community Improvements

Telephone Survey Targets Labrador Snowmobile Trail Users

Over the next two weeks, the Provincial Government will be contacting approximately 600 households in eight Labrador communities to gain insight and input from winter trail users on ways to improve the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy.

“We are committed to advancing transportation infrastructure throughout the province and this includes the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy. This survey will assist the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office in its evaluation of the program and will indicate any potential improvements or efficiencies which could lead to improved service. We are looking forward to gaining direct input from those that use the winter road system on a regular basis to effectively complete our evaluation.”
- The Honourable Keith Russell, Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs

Starting Monday, April 27, residents located in Hopedale, Makkovik, Postville, Rigolet, Williams Harbour, Norman Bay, Black Tickle and Mud Lake will be contacted to complete the telephone survey which will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This survey of winter trail users will be conducted as part of a comprehensive evaluation of the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy and will support and guide continued implementation and advancement of the program.

The Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office invests $351,000 annually to groom snowmobile trails for isolated communities not connected to the Trans Labrador Highway.

“The Provincial Government continues to support the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy and we recognize the importance of providing a well-maintained and safe winter trail system for all users. The trail network is a vital link which ensures residents in these isolated coastal communities remain connected to service centres.”
- Minister Russell

The telephone survey is one component of an ongoing evaluation of the program which is anticipated to be completed later in 2015.
