Students Prove Theyre HotShots at Energy Conservation

Four classes of students were rewarded for their energy conservation knowledge and creativity today by being named grand prize winners of the K-I-C Start energy conservation contest for Grades Kindergarten to 6. The contest, designed to raise awareness about the importance of energy conservation, is one of several components offered through the Provincial Governments HotShots initiative and the takeCHARGE school program.

We are thrilled to partner with takeCHARGE to offer this contest as part of our HotShots initiative. It is important to instill in our youth, our future leaders, the importance of energy conservation and this fun and engaging contest does just that. I would like to congratulate all of the students who participated for their exceptional submissions and for their commitment to being energy efficiency ambassadors.
- The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister Responsible for the Office of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency

Through the contest, students in Grades Kindergarten to 6 province-wide were invited to submit projects that demonstrate the importance of energy conservation. Over 30 creative submissions were received, including videos, posters, magazines and songs.

Practising energy efficiency encourages us all to work together to protect the environment so that our natural resources will be available for future generations. It is important that we educate todays students about energy conservation because they will be tomorrows leaders and innovators. I would like to congratulate all the students who submitted projects and encourage them to continue being energy saving HotShots
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development
