Public Advisory: Provincial Government Insurance Carrier Changing to Great-West Life

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has selected Great-West Life to be the new provider of insurance benefits for current and retired public service employees.

The selection of Great-West Life is a result of a Request for Proposal process which was initiated when the contract for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Group Insurance Program came up for renewal. It is expected the transition to the new provider will be completed by Fall 2015.

At that time, people will see a reduction in premiums for Basic Life and Dependent Life insurance. Rates will remain the same for 48 months. There will be no change to Extended Health and Basic Accidental Death and Dismemberment premiums and these rates will remain the same for 24 months.

In addition, there will be no change in benefits and there will also be minor enhancements to the optional benefits that will be offered through Great-West Life.

Current and retired public service employees with further questions about this change in benefits carrier can contact the Insurance Division at 709-729-2310 or at groupinsurance@gov.nl.ca.
