Minister Highlights Importance of Privacy Protection on Data Privacy Day

Today, on Data Privacy Day, the Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, is reminding residents of the importance of protecting their personal information and safeguarding data. Data Privacy Day has been recognized around the world since 2008 in an effort to generate global discussion and awareness.

Technology is playing a growing role in our lives, and by taking a few simple steps, all of us, from students, to business owners, to government employees, can ensure that our privacy and personal information is protected."

The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Office, of the Office of Public Engagement, encourages all individuals to take the time and ensure their software is up to date and passwords are strong. In addition, it is important to review privacy settings on social networking sites to ensure that personal information is limited from public accessibility.
