Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Crown District Five Year Operating Plan FMD 17/18 (2013-2017) Amendment
Proponent: Forestry and Agrifoods Agency (Reg. 1817)

The proponent has submitted a proposal to amend three domestic cutting blocks (D18-26, D17-06, and D17-23) of the Crown Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 17/18. The amendment is necessary to provide improved access for residents and increased demand from cottage owners. The proposed area covers 1,592 hectares and will provide access to an additional 52,000 cubic metres of timber for domestic fuelwood and saw logs. An estimated 3,400 cubic metres of softwood and 380 cubic metres of hardwood will be harvested each year of the remainder of the five year plan.

The undertaking was registered on October 26, 2015; the deadline for public comments is December 1, 2015; and the minister's decision is due by December 10, 2015.

Port Rexton Microbrewery (Reg. 1818)
Proponent: Port Rexton Brewing Company Ltd.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct and operate a microbrewery in the Town of Port Rexton on the Bonavista Peninsula. The proposal includes the production of approximately 300 hectolitres of beer per year at an existing residential/commercial property. The project will also include public tours of the facility, a retail outlet and licenced lounge/tasting room for sampling the product. Renovations are planned for the existing building in order to accommodate the brewery equipment and production process as well as the retail area and tasting room. Upgrades are planned for the plumbing and electrical systems and the construction of a drilled well. This project is expected to commence upon receipt of all approvals.

The undertaking was registered on October 26, 2015; the deadline for public comments is December 1, 2015; and the minister's decision is due by December 10, 2015.

MINISTER'S DECISION EXTENDED:

Fermeuse Offshore Marine Base (Reg. 1773)
Proponent: Fermeuse Enterprises Ltd.

The Minister of Environment and Conservation and the proponent, Fermeuse Enterprises Ltd., have agreed to extend the deadline for the Minister's decision to November 10, 2015 in order to facilitate a thorough review of the environmental preview report submitted by the proponent.

Bay de Verde Shell By-product Drying Facility (Reg. 1808)
Proponent: Quinlan Brothers Ltd.

The Minister of Environment and Conservation and the proponent, Quinlan Brothers Ltd., have agreed to extend the deadline for the Minister's decision to November 9, 2015.

Roy's Knob - Labrador City Quartzite Mine (Reg. 1809)
Proponent: FerroQuartz Labrador Inc.

The Minister of Environment and Conservation and the proponent, FerroQuartz Labrador Inc., have agreed to extend the deadline for the Minister's decision to November 13, 2015.

Diversion and Dewatering of Luce Lake North, Labrador West Project(Reg. 1810)
Proponent: Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC)

The Minister of Environment and Conservation and the proponent, IOC, have agreed to extend the deadline for the Minister's decision to November 18, 2015, in order to facilitate a thorough review of this project.
