Media Advisory: Media Invited to Participate in Mistaken Point Tour

Members of the media are invited to participate in a familiarization tour of Mistaken Point, located adjacent to Portugal Cove South, Wednesday, September 30. The media tour is taking place during the same week as the International Union for the Conservation of Nature field visit to Mistaken Point - the next step in the province's bid to have the site designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the media familiarization tour will take approximately four hours starting at the Edge of Avalon Interpretive Centre in Portugal Cove South, located on Route 10, the Irish Loop Drive.

Media are asked to consider the following, particularly when selecting equipment to take:

  • Tour involves a six kilometre round-trip hike;
  • Time involved is approximately four hours, including a 30 minute vehicle ride on a gravel road to reach the trail;
  • Proper footwear for hiking, and layered windproof and waterproof clothing is encouraged; and
  • Tripods must not have spiked metal feet.

Members of the media can register by calling Tina Coffey at 709-729-5783 or by email at tcoffey@gov.nl.ca before 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29. Further details will be provided upon registration.
