Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

St. John�s Waste Drilling Mud Treatment                         (Reg. 1812)
Proponent: Crosbie Industrial Services Ltd.

The proponent has submitted a registration to install a treatment plant to treat non-hazardous waste drilling mud utilizing indirect thermal desorption process at their existing operations site on Logy Bay Road, St. John�s. Thermal desorption is not incineration. The process involves physically separating volatile contaminants from the solids in a heated chamber. The vaporized contaminants are then removed from the chamber, condensed, separated and recovered for recycling, treatment or disposal. The solids are also recovered, treated and transported to disposal. The assembly of the plant would begin on May 1, 2016, and operation would commence by May 8, 2016.

The undertaking was registered on September 22, 2015; the deadline for public comments is October 28, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by November 6, 2015.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT SUBMITTED:

St. Lawrence AGS Vein Fluorspar Mine                                 (Reg. 1794)
Proponent: Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc.

The proponent has submitted the Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the above undertaking as required by the minister on August 31, 2015. Public comments regarding the EPR are welcome and must be received no later than October 28, 2015.
