Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Rocky Pond Cottage Access Road             (Reg. 1800)
Proponent: Junior Mahoney

The proponent is proposing to construct a 500 metre single lane road in order to gain access to a remote cottage located at Rocky Pond. The proposed road will connect with the end of Horse Chops Road which intersects with Route 340 near Birchy Bay. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid to late summer 2015.

The undertaking was registered on June 26, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 31, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due August 9, 2015.

Canning�s Lake Cottage and Access Road
Proponent: Cory King            (Reg. 1799)

The proponent is proposing to construct a cottage and 900 metres of access road at Canning�s Lake, east of Route 360, the Bay d�Espoir Highway. The proposed new road will be an extension of the existing Canning�s Lake Road which branches off the Bay d�Espoir Highway approximately 25 kilometres south of the intersection of the Bay d�Espoir Highway and the Trans-Canada Highway. The new access road will have a six metre right of way. Construction is anticipated to begin in late summer or early fall 2015.

The undertaking was registered on June 25, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 31, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due August 9, 2015.

Logy Bay Road Commercial Spray Paint Facility
Proponent: DF Barnes            (Reg. 1798)

The proponent proposes to operate a commercial paint facility at the existing DF Barnes location on Logy Bay Road and Pepperrell Road in the east end of St. John�s. The facility will be used for sandblasting, painting, and specialty coating of fabricated structures. The new warehouse and office space area will be approximately 1,450 square metres. Construction of the facility is scheduled to be completed by September 2015.

The undertaking was registered on June 24, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 31, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by August 8, 2015.

Piper�s Hole River Quarry
Proponent: BOCI Services            (Reg. 1797)

The proponent proposes to establish a quarry adjacent to existing active quarries in the Piper�s Hole River area approximately six kilometres northwest of Swift Current. The quarry will operate under two permits for a combined area of seven hectares and is intended to provide screened sand and gravel to local area customers and winter sand for highway depots. The site will be accessed via an existing road. Construction will require the removal of wetland to the east of the existing quarries. Quarry operations are expected to start in August 2015.

FMD 9/16 Five-Year Plan Amendment - Beaches Domestic Harvesting
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources           (Reg. 1796)

The proponent proposes to amend the current Five Year Management Plan to extend the existing Beaches domestic operating area � C0940. The amendment area is located in Forest Management District 9 near the community of Hampton. Harvesting will consist of domestic sawlog and firewood operations using chainsaw. Potential harvest will be approximately 2,100 cubic metres per year.

The undertaking was registered on June 23, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 31, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by August 7, 2015.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT GUIDELINES ISSUED:

Indian River Cottage Lot Development Project
Proponent: Noble�s Holdings Inc.            (Reg. 1785)

The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the Indian River Cottage Lot Development project. The EPR guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to include in the EPR.
