Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Clarke�s Head Quarry                                             (Reg. 1786)
Proponent: Donald LeDrew


Emerillon Lake (Lab West) Slaughter House          (Reg. 1784)
Proponent: K&R Farms

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • A Farm Development (Business) Plan must be submitted to and approved by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Agrifoods Development) prior to construction.
  • The slaughter house waste is not permitted to be disposed of on-site and the waste disposal requirements must be approved by Service NL.
  • An Environmental Protection Plan including for (a) waste management and (b) wildlife interaction/avoidance must be submitted to and approved by the Minister of Environment and Conservation prior to construction.

Badger Aggregate Quarry                                       (Reg. 1768)
Proponent: Exploits Valley Paving Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • Quarry operations can only be conducted on weekdays and only between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and no operations are to occur between June 15 and September 15.
  • A 50-metre naturally vegetated buffer be maintained around all water bodies and wetlands to protect any sensitive habitat.
  • The quarry must operate under a Quarry Lease.

Gravel and Sand Quarry at Horse Chops               (Reg. 1787)
Proponent: L & E Trucking and Excavation Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • minimum 50-metre naturally vegetated buffer be maintained along all waterbodies and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species, and their habitat.
