Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Indian Bay Pond Snowmobile Trail              (Reg. 1791)
Proponent: Kittiwake Snowmobile Association

The proponent is planning to re-locate a section of an existing snowmobile trail along the former Bonavista North Highway to avoid water crossings and promote safe snowmobiling. The re-located trail will follow 24.3 kilometres of existing road and will require the construction of 3.4 kilometres of new trail. The existing trail will be decommissioned once the re-located trail has been constructed. Both the existing and proposed trails lie within the Indian Bay Protected Water Supply Area. Construction is projected to begin during the summer of 2016 and is expected to be completed during one construction season. The undertaking was registered on April 24, 2015; the deadline for public comments is May 29, 2015; and the ministers decision is due by June 8, 2015.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Big Brook Junction Quarries              (Reg. 1780)
Proponent: Maurices Service Centre Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • Due to the potential for rare plants to occur in the area, a botanical survey of the proposed quarry sites and adjacent area must be conducted prior to any quarry activities. The survey protocols must be developed in consultation with the Wildlife Division.
