Nominations Open for the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Awards Program, which recognizes the outstanding efforts of individuals, schools, community groups and businesses in sustaining, protecting and enhancing the environment.

"A clean and sustainable environment is critical to the social, physical, cultural and economic well-being of our residents, including future generations of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. These awards acknowledge the exceptional environmental efforts made by groups and individuals throughout the province and I look forward to receiving many worthy nominations."

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:

  • Individual
  • Community Group or Organization
  • Youth, Youth Group or School
  • Municipality or Regional Waste Management Committee
  • Business or Industry Leader and
  • Lifetime Achievement

The winners will be announced during Environment Week, which takes place June 1 - 6. The winner in each category will receive a $1,000 honorarium from the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board to be used to continue their environmental project or donated in their name to an environmental organization or cause.

The Environmental Awards Program is a joint initiative sponsored by the Department of Environment and Conservation, the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board and the Newfoundland and Labrador Women's Institutes.
