Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Cochrane Pond Area - Lands for Galway Subdivision                                                 (Reg. 1782)
Proponent: 10718 NFLD. Inc.

The proponent proposes to purchase two parcels of land totaling approximately 28 hectares located near Cochrane Pond and to the south of the Nav Canada signal tower. These parcels are required to connect and provide access to the residential section of the Galway subdivision, which is located on adjacent land currently owned by the proponent.

The undertaking was registered on February 13, 2015; the deadline for public comment is March 23, 2015; and the ministers decision is due by March 30, 2015.

Long Pond Weir                                                                                                        (Reg. 1783)
Proponent: City of St. Johns

The proponent has submitted an application for the construction of a concrete weir at the outlet of Long Pond, immediately upstream of the Allandale Road Bridge in St. Johns. Constructing the weir at the outlet of Long Pond will result in water being temporarily stored in Long Pond during a storm event and released at a lower flow rate. Due to the increased storage capacity, the level of Long Pond would increase for a short period of time during a storm and return to its normal level a short time after the end of a storm. The major benefit of the weir is that the peak flows downstream of Long Pond will be reduced, resulting in decreased costs associated with the implementation of flood control options at locations downstream. Construction is expected to take place between June 1, 2015 and August 31, 2015 and will not be staged.

The undertaking was registered on February 13, 2015; the deadline for public comment is March 23, 2015; and the ministers decision is due by March 30, 2015.

MINISTERS DECISION EXTENDED:

Fermeuse Offshore Marine Base                                                                             (Reg. 1773)
Proponent: Fermeuse Enterprises Ltd.

The proponent, Fermeuse Enterprises Limited, has requested additional time before the Minister's decision on the Fermeuse Offshore Marine Base project. The Minister has granted the extension and the new deadline is March 9, 2015.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Mount Pearl/Donovan's Spray Painting Booth                                                         (Reg. 1774)
