Electors Encouraged to Contact Elections Newfoundland and Labrador

Elections Newfoundland and Labrador is taking important steps to bring awareness to the people of the province on the recent electoral boundary changes and its effect on the provincial voters list. A reminder card is being mailed to all households in the province encouraging those interested in voting in the upcoming November 30 provincial general election to call Elections Newfoundland and Labrador to either confirm their registration, determine their electoral district, or to add themselves to the voters list.

"We strongly encourage people who intend to vote in the November election to call our office to confirm their voter information. Significant changes have been made to the provincial electoral boundaries; not only were the districts reduced from 48 to 40, but most were renamed and the boundaries were realigned. People who have voted in the same location for many years may see their voting location change. By calling Elections Newfoundland and Labrador now, electors may be able to improve their voting experience at the polls."
- Victor Powers, Chief Electoral Officer of Newfoundland and Labrador

A call-centre has been established at Elections Newfoundland and Labrador headquarters to field inquiries and update elector information.

Inclusion on the voters list provides benefits to electors, such as receiving personalized Voter Information Cards that detail where and when to vote. Registered electors may also experience a more streamlined process when casting a ballot by avoiding the need for additional paperwork.

"The federal election is taking place on October 19, 2015 - just six weeks before our provincial election. Electors should be mindful of the fact that inclusion on the federal list of electors does not guarantee inclusion on our provincial list. Though we receive updates from Elections Canada, it is quite possible that any updates made at the federal polls will not be incorporated into the provincial list in time for our election due to the restrictive timelines between the two electoral events."
-Mr. Powers

The deadline for additions to the voters list for the November 30, 2015, general election is 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015. Electors can still vote at the polling stations even if they are not on the voters list, but will have to take an oath and produce appropriate identification at that time.
