Investing in Rural Newfoundland and Labrador

Province Assists with Appleton Industrial Park Expansion

The Town of Appleton will expand its industrial park with the help of a $79,000 investment from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The community of approximately 620 residents with the motto, “room to grow” is living up to this theme, as it makes plans to enhance its industrial area to better service existing clients and attract new ones.

“The Town of Appleton has worked hard to carve a unique service niche for itself with its industrial park, which has immediate access to the Trans-Canada Highway. Our government continues to support regional economic development in rural Newfoundland and Labrador, as it helps develop diverse business opportunities for communities, such as we see here in Appleton. This development is essential to maintain and increase the province’s population, and our government is committed to supporting such initiatives, as outlined in our population growth strategy.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The central Newfoundland town has seen modest population growth since 2006 and its immediate highway access and proximity to Gander gives Appleton a strategic location to further develop its industrial service opportunities. The $79,000 investment from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will go toward water and sewer expansion in the park.

“Our town actively promotes the industrial park and is working to expand the facility in a sustainable manner. We are pleased the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is supporting our efforts with this significant investment; as it will help us better meet the needs of current and future clients.”
- Derm Flynn, Mayor of Appleton

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has invested more than $200 million in economic and business development initiatives since 2005. Through the Regional Development Fund, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
