Investing in Tourism and Economic Potential

Provincial Government Supports ATV Trail Extension on Burin Peninsula

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is supporting the Greater Lamaline Area Multi-Purpose Trail Association in its efforts to complete an ATV trail extension connecting Point May to the Lamaline-Fortune trail. The 8.5 kilometre extension will enable users access to Point May and serves as an overall enhancement to the Burin Peninsula Trail system.

The ATV trail network is an important part of tourism infrastructure and offers great potential for economic benefits to the Burin peninsula and the province. The trail network is enjoyed by local people, and is also a draw for outdoor enthusiasts from across the province and beyond. It brings visitors to our region, and with them many opportunities for local businesses.
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

Funding of $22,000 is being provided for the project. The extension will allow access to Point May via the new trail, and onward to Point Crew. Point Crew is one of seven view parks on the Burin Peninsula and is the best site to observe the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has invested more than $200 million in economic and business development initiatives since 2005. Through the Regional Development Fund, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
