Stephenville Sets Out to Market Military History
The Stephenville Cultural Destination Development Committee is working to market the town as a military cultural destination with support from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Provincial Government is committing $63,000 to the initiative which includes producing a marketing plan for the town.
Stephenvilles military history is unique to this region and provides an opportunity to showcase the history and culture of the town. This initiative will result in enriched cultural experiences for the community and visitors, as well as economic opportunities for local businesses.
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development
The project will include a three-year tourism marketing plan, which will initially build on military links, and later branch out to highlight Francophone and Aboriginal history in the region. The funding will also be used to establish a website and social media presence, and produce marketing materials including storyboards, murals and a town tourism kiosk.
Stephenville, and this region as a whole, has a rich Francophone, Acadian and Aboriginal cultural history. This area is also very well known for its strong and dedicated military involvement. The work of the committee will help build awareness for residents and visitors, and will strengthen the regions tourism potential.
- The Honourable Tony Cornect, Minister of Service NL and MHA for Port au Port
