Provincial Government Invests in Hearts Content Arts Centre

A former church and registered heritage structure will be transformed into a community arts centre in Hearts Content, with a $143,000 Provincial Government contribution. The Hearts Content Mizzen Heritage Society plans to restore and renovate the former Heyfield Memorial United Church into a facility with a 150-seat performance area, workshop, and tea room.

It is very exciting to see valued community landmarks re-purposed in this way. This is a building with historical and cultural significance, and our government is pleased to support this project which will secure and rejuvenate this building in a meaningful way for the town, the arts community, and the region.
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The building has been designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador in part because of its connection to the establishment of Methodism in Hearts Content, and its Gothic Revival architecture.

Through the Regional Development Fund, the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provides support to organizations by way of non-repayable contributions for projects aimed at supporting economic development, innovation and capacity building in all regions of the province.
