Supporting the Development of Communities
Workforce Development Roundtable Discussions Scheduled to Take Place Province-Wide
The Provincial Government will hold 22 workforce development roundtable discussions at locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador this summer and into September. The first session is taking place Friday, July 17 in Burin at College of the North Atlantic beginning at 1:00 p.m. The discussions are a part of the Workforce Development Action Plan under the Population Growth Strategy and will focus on engaging participants on the direction of the strategy.
“It is essential that we continue to help prepare employers, residents and communities for the changing labour market. We need to engage with employers, community leaders and the public on ways to help our population and maximize the employment opportunities available in the province. These roundtable discussions will help connect people to potential solutions.”
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills
Members of the local business community, post-secondary institutions, employers, labour organizations, municipal and local leaders and representatives of community groups are all encouraged to attend. The public is also invited to express interest in participating by emailing WorkforceDevelopment@gov.nl.ca.
A list of dates, locations and venues for the Workforce Development Roundtable Discussions can be found in the backgrounder below. Public advisories will be issued with times for the sessions.
Input obtained from the roundtable discussions will help inform implementation of the Workforce Development Action Plan and will be used to help inform labour market programming investments. The discussions are planned to be held annually and a summary of the input obtained from these sessions will be publically communicated through the Annual Report of the Population Growth Strategy. The Workforce Development Action Plan includes initiatives to address unemployment, support job growth, tackle skills and job mismatches, and align the labour force with employment opportunities for residents of all ages throughout the province.
