Provincial Government Releases Job Vacancy Report
Employers, education and training institutions, students and job seekers in Newfoundland and Labrador can now learn more about current trends in the provincial labour market through the release of the 2014 Job Vacancy Report.
The Job Vacancy Report identifies opportunities and trends in different regions of the province and informs our efforts to maximize labour force participation. Through a growing economy and regular retirements, more and more opportunities will emerge in core industries in Newfoundland and Labrador. With this in mind, the Job Vacancy Report provides a complete picture of the labour market in Newfoundland and Labrador and will help ensure individuals are able to capitalize on these opportunities in the long-term.
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills
The Job Vacancy Report provides a detailed analysis of more than 38,000 job advertisements recorded during the last calendar year. This analysis includes regions where jobs were located, key industries, in-demand occupations and education requirements for these occupations. As part of its regular monitoring process, the information was gathered by the department through two main employment websites (JOBSinNL.ca and CareerBeacon.com), as well as local newspapers (the Telegram and 14 regional community newspapers).
The report highlights current labour trends, identifies in-demand occupations and outlines regional opportunities in communities throughout the province. The report also provides information on post-secondary training requirements for different jobs such as a university degree, college diploma, college certificate or apprenticeship certification.
We are continuously working to provide a more robust compilation of labour market information to be used by employers and individuals when they are making important employment and career related decisions. By matching people to jobs and employers to workers, we are continuing to help Newfoundlanders and Labradorians find meaningful employment so they can live their lives and raise their families right here in our province.
- Minister Jackman
