Northeast Trepassey Bridge Progresses with Award of Tender

The $1 million replacement of the Northeast Trepassey Bridge will soon begin with the construction of a temporary diversion to facilitate traffic while the new bridge is being built. The new bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic in August 2015.

“As a government, we are focused on continuing to improve the safety and reliability of our provincial roads and highways. A key aspect of this work is regularly monitoring bridges to determine whether they need general repairs, more substantial rehabilitation or replacement. Through this process, close to $30 million is being spent on 23 bridge repair and replacement projects this year, which includes the rehabilitation of the Bay Bulls River Bridge and the $1 million replacement of the Northeast Trepassey Bridge.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

Trepassey-based Southern Construction will construct the new bridge in the same location as the existing bridge with traffic routed through a temporary one lane detour. The new bridge will be 12.02 metres wide.

“I am pleased that we are continuing upgrades along Route 10 and the Irish Loop and continuing to provide services to residents and drive economic activity‎ through solid road infrastructure. Over the past several years we have invested significant funds in Ferryland District for upgrades and we will continue to make improvements on the large road inventory that stretches from Maddox Cove to St. Vincent's on the Southern Avalon.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and MHA for Ferryland

Since 2011, more than $100 million has been invested in bridge replacement and repair projects. Currently, contracts have been awarded for the replacement of seven bridges and rehabilitation of 16 bridges. Replaced bridges have included Bonavista Water Supply Bridge and Glenwood East Overpass near Appleton, while rehabilitated bridges included Chapel Arm Bridge, Eddie’s Cove East Bridge and Eddie’s Cove West Bridge.

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook provides more than $81 million for the Provincial Road Improvement Program, representing one of the largest investments to date to facilitate upgrades and enhancements to provincial roads, highways and bridges.
