O’Donnell’s Bridge Set for Replacement in 2015

A new bridge in O’Donnell’s will be open to traffic by fall 2015 with a $2.9 million investment by the Provincial Government. This investment builds on a series of bridge improvement and replacement projects that have taken place throughout the province this year totalling close to $30 million.

“Since 2011, our government has invested more than $100 million in bridge replacement and repair projects. We will continue to make investments of this nature as they ensure that residents and businesses have access to a safe, reliable and efficient transportation network.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The two-lane, 23 metre bridge will be constructed by Trident Construction and work is scheduled to begin this fall. While construction on the new bridge takes place, the contractor will also build a temporary by-pass road, a temporary bridge, and re-grade approaches to the new bridge structure.

‘I am pleased with the considerable investment in this important part of our transportation infrastructure. It will improve driving conditions for the residents of St. Mary’s Bay North.”
- Felix Collins, MHA for Placentia-St. Mary’s

In 2014, contracts have been awarded for the replacement of seven bridges and rehabilitation of 16 bridges. These include the Glenwood East Overpass outside of Appleton, Brookside Bridge in Brookside, Barry’s Brook Bridge on the Gander Bay Highway, Southwest Brook Bridge near Port Blandford, and Winterhouse Brook Bridge in Bonne Bay.

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook provides more than $81 million for the Provincial Road Improvement Program, representing one of the largest investments to date to facilitate upgrades and enhancements to provincial roads, highways and bridges.
