Transportation Upgrades Support Enhanced Accessibility
Tenders Being Called for Wharf Improvements on Fogo Island and Change Islands
To accommodate the new 80-metre ferry that is expected to arrive in the province in September 2015, tenders for wharf enhancements on Fogo Island and Change Islands will soon be released.
“Improvements to wharf infrastructure on Fogo Island and Change Islands, as well as Farewell, highlight our government’s commitment to ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place to accommodate the new 80-metre ferry that will begin service next fall. Such investments in transportation infrastructure contribute to community and economic development by creating employment during the construction phase of the project and new opportunities for small businesses.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works
At ferry terminal wharves on Fogo Island and Change Islands, work this year will include dredging, as well as raising wharf height and widening the loading ramps. Work will also be tendered for widening the existing ramp in Farewell.
“Our government remains committed to providing transportation infrastructure that meets the needs of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in the rural and remote areas of our province. This piece of work ensures we are ready for the arrival of the new custom-built vessel for the Fogo Island-Change Islands run in 2015 and demonstrates our continued commitment to residents and businesses.”
- The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources and MHA for the Isles of Notre Dame
