Sound Approach to Strengthening Transportation Infrastructure

J-1 Contracting Awarded $15.7 Million for Road Work Projects on the Bay d’Espoir Highway and in Baie Verte-Springdale

Tenders totalling $15.7 million for major road improvement projects on the Bay d’Espoir Highway and in Baie Verte-Springdale have been awarded to J-1 Contracting. The early release and awarding of tenders ensures full utilization of the road construction season and guarantees that these improvements will be fully completed within two years.

“The awarding of these two contracts captures our government’s commitment to getting an early start to the road construction season. The scope of work in both areas is significant and will be completed within two years. With a collective investment of $15.7 million, this approach will benefit residential and commercial traffic in these areas for many years to come.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works

J-1 Contracting was awarded a contract valued at $10 million to rehabilitate 33 kilometres of Route 360, Bay d’Espoir Highway. The work will include upgrades between kilometres 80.6 and 86.6 and kilometres 170.9 and 198.2.

“Route 360 is an integral corridor for residents, visitors, and businesses through the Coast of Bays to the Trans Canada Highway. With the early awarding of the tender, the contractor is able to mobilize its resources once the weather cooperates and begin to improve road conditions in the area.”
- Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune

In Baie Verte-Springdale, the tender is valued at $5.7 million to rehabilitate 11.75 kilometres of Route 410, Fleur de Lys Road and 9.8 kilometres of Route 414, La Scie Highway.

“I am extremely pleased that the Provincial Government was so quick to issue and award tenders that benefit residents in the region and throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. These upgrades will contribute to quality and safe highway infrastructure, which will encourage greater tourism and economic activity in the region.”
- Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte-Springdale
