Public Advisory: Heavy Snow Drifting Resulting in Temporary Closure of TCH in Parts of Southwestern Newfoundland

The Department of Transportation and Works is advising motorists in southwestern Newfoundland that Route 470 from Port aux Basques to Rose Blanche and the Burgeo Highway have been temporarily closed. Delays can be expected on the Trans Canada Highway from Cape Ray to Port aux Basques as the department is escorting traffic.

Heavy snow and high localized winds are resulting in snow drifts in excess of 12 feet high and poor visibility. The department has fully deployed all of its resources and secured assistance from the City of Corner Brook.

Currently, all available resources are being focused on the primary highway network. Clearing of local roads will immediately follow.

The department encourages motorists to stay off the highways in this region of the province until conditions improve and appreciates the patience of the travelling public. Further updates will be provided as required.
