Minister Announces Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive Extension Project
The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works, was joined by the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Ferryland, in Bay Bulls today, to announce plans to extend Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive.
“The Provincial Government remains focused on advancing strategic
transportation infrastructure to enhance the economic and social well-being
of our people and our communities. The first step in this major multi-year
project will be survey activity which will soon get underway in preparation
for clearing the corridor for construction of the extension of Robert E.
Howlett Memorial Drive.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works
A multi-year project, the Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive Extension will help divert traffic from Bay Bulls Big Pond and Middle Pond area. The planned route begins at the current end of Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive, at the intersection of Route 10, continuing south approximately 9.5 kilometres parallel to the current road towards Bay Bulls.
“This is a major transportation project that we have been working to
advance for the people of the region. The Southern Shore Region continues to
see significant residential and commercial growth including significant
traffic to and from the region. This investment by our government continues
our commitment to well needed infrastructure in the region. Once completed,
this new highway will provide a more free-flowing movement of vehicles in
this ever-increasing, high traffic area. I am very pleased to see this
project proceeding.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture
and MHA for Ferryland
