Commitment to Sport Strengthens Communities

Town of Conception Bay South Receives Newfoundland and Labrador Games Funding

In 2016, the Town of Conception Bay South will host the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. The games are the largest multi-sport event for youth in the province, bringing together athletes from 11 to 18 years of age. The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced $60,000 in support of the upcoming games.

“As a government, we are delighted to support the Town of Conception Bay South as they upgrade their facilities for the recruitment, preparation and training of local athletes for the 2016 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. The town will use the $60,000 for the refurbishing and resurfacing of four existing tennis courts and the construction of two new beach volleyball courts.”

The Newfoundland and Labrador Games are held every two years, alternating winter and summer, and are co-ordinated by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation in conjunction with Sport Newfoundland and Labrador and provincial sport organizations. The 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games were held in Clarenville March 1-9 and hosted more than 1,300 athletes, coaches and staff from all regions of the province and St. Pierre and Miquelon.
