Media Advisory: Minister to Attend SportFest Event

On behalf of the Provincial Government, the Honourable Tony Cornect, Minister of Service NL, will attend an event for sponsors of SportFest on Thursday, October 16, at Techniplex, 39 Churchill Avenue (Pleasantville). A reception begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by tour of SportFest attractions and displays at 4:30 p.m.

SportFest, which is being held October 16-18, is an annual event, offered through Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, where children and adults are invited to try their hand at numerous team or individual sports. Thursday and Friday events are targeted at school-aged children, while events on Saturday are open to the public. It is an opportunity to explore a new sport, or learn more about a favourite activity, in the pursuit of a healthy, active lifestyle.

The Provincial Government provides $25,000 to support SportFest, through the newly-established Department of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, which aligns government-wide efforts to promote overall wellness for all citizens in areas such as recreation and sport, healthy eating and being smoke-free.
