Seasonal Vehicle Registrations Support Families and Communities

New Automatic Seasonal Vehicle Registration Introduced for Northern Labrador Communities

Permanent residents of communities located along the north coast of Labrador now have the option to automatically select a shorter seven-month vehicle registration in addition to annual vehicle registration for passenger vehicles, light trucks and vans. The communities are Nain, Hopedale, Makkovik, Postville, Rigolet, Black Tickle, Williams Harbour and Norman Bay.

“I am pleased that we are now able to offer permanent residents of these eight coastal communities the automatic option to pay for a registration period from May 1 to November 30 upfront on their renewal notices and online. This option recognizes that residents are not able to use their vehicles year-round due to winter conditions and as such it is only fair that they only pay for the months in which they are able to drive their vehicles.”
- The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Service NL

The cost for the seasonal registration is reduced from $140 to $82 for most vehicles. Seasonal registration is now in effect and will appear as an option for permanent residents on the north coast of Labrador on their vehicle registration renewal notices. The option for an annual registration will also remain if residents would like to continue their registration year-round. Residents can also choose the seven-month registration if they renew online. Previously, residents would have had to contact the Motor Registration Division to receive a refund to avail of the seven-month registration.

“Adding the automatic option for permanent residents on Labrador’s north coast to register their passenger vehicles for a shorter period, while continuing to offer year-round registration, directly responds to the needs of residents in these communities. This option captures our government’s commitment to deliver programs and services that reflect the cultural and geographic needs of Labrador communities.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs

Anyone wishing to renew their vehicle registration can do so online at www.eservices.gov.nl.ca. Residents may also call the Motor Registration Division toll-free at 1-877-636-6867.
