Strengthening Partnerships for Mineral Resource Prosperity

Minister Meets with Business and Government Representatives in China

The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources, is in China this week to join a larger Canadian delegation in a trade promotion and investment attraction mission focused on the mining and minerals exploration sector.

“As part of this mission, we will meet with business and government officials, showcase our province’s mineral resources, explore new opportunities in the mining and mineral exploration sector, and further build relationships which are fundamental to doing business with China.”

Scheduled events include meetings with China’s senior government officials, as well as representatives of major Chinese steel companies with investment interests in the province.

The trade mission agenda also includes participation in the Canada Natural Resources Forum in Shanghai and the Canada Mineral Investment Forum in Beijing. This marks the eighth year that the Provincial Government has taken part in mining investment forums which has helped contribute to significant interest and investment in the province.

In addition, the Provincial Government is presenting at and hosting a trade show booth to promote mineral opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador at China Mining, Asia’s largest mining conference, attracting more than 7,000 industry and government delegates from 55 countries.

The Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development provided a financial contribution of $13,900 to Mining Industry NL to assist with various costs associated with their attendance in the trade mission to China.

This is the eighth year that the Department of Natural Resources has participated in China Mining and other investment attraction events in China.
