Public Advisory: Wolf Sightings Reported in St. Lewis in Labrador

The Department of Natural Resources is warning residents about reports of wolf sightings in St. Lewis in Labrador. Several residents of St. Lewis have reported the sightings to conservation officers within the department.

Pet owners, especially those living adjacent to wooded areas, are advised to protect their animals by keeping them indoors or in confined areas such as a fenced yard. Wolves have been known to occasionally attack small to medium-sized pets.

Conservation officers have increased patrols in the area and will continue to monitor the situation.

Should you encounter a wolf, avoid direct eye contact and back away slowly from the animal.

Anyone sighting a wolf should contact the Department of Natural Resources office in Port Hope-Simpson at 709-960-0400 during business hours or 709-897-7117 after 4:30 p.m.
