Strengthening the Provincial Electricity System
Consultant Retained for Independent Review of Electricity System
The Provincial Government today announced that a contract has been awarded to Power Advisory LLC for the independent review of the electricity system in Newfoundland and Labrador.
“The work plan submitted by Power Advisory LLC demonstrated excellent insight into the provincial electricity sector and the project team possesses the technical expertise required to complete this work. Information regarding the review, as well as the final report, will be made available to the public. As we transition into an interconnected system, this thorough review will examine all aspects of our province’s current system including governance and regulation, generation, transmission and distribution to maximize future benefits from our electricity resources while ensuring a reliable electricity system for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

As part of its review, Power Advisory LLC will examine the operation, management and regulation of the current electricity system to ensure reliability and security as well as a smooth transition into an interconnected system. Power Advisory LLC has completed projects of a similar scope in the past, particularly in Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States.
In April 2014, the Provincial Government issued a public Request for Proposals (RFP) for a review of Newfoundland and Labrador’s electricity system. The RFP identified the scope of work and how proposals would be evaluated. The review will complement, not duplicate, the reviews completed by the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB), Liberty Consulting, as well as Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Newfoundland Power and will help to strengthen the provincial electricity system.
