Release from Provincial Environmental Assessment Represents Important Step for Kami Project

Today’s release of the Kami iron ore project in western Labrador from the Provincial Government’s environmental assessment process represents a major milestone and an important step forward for the project.

The Provincial Government recognizes the importance of supplying power to meet Labrador West’s growing demand, in particular for new mining developments.

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.

QUICK FACTS

• The Kami Project is strategically located in Canada’s premier iron ore district near the mining communities of Wabush and Labrador City.
• Once in operation, the Kami project is expected to ship eight million tonnes per year of iron concentrate.
• The Kami project, when in operation, will also provide close to 380 person-years of employment per year over a 30-year mine life.
