Infrastructure Investments Strengthen Communities

$2.2 Million investment Strengthens Municipal Infrastructure in District of Carbonear - Harbour Grace

The Provincial Government is investing $2.2 million in cost-shared multi-year capital works funding in the District of Carbonear - Harbour Grace. The funding will support water and sewer and lift station upgrades, a water main extension, and road improvements in the communities of Carbonear and Victoria.

Projects being funded as part of this $2.2 million multi-year investment are:

  • $1.3 million for water and sewer upgrades and paving on LeMarchant Street in Carbonear and an additional $326,000 for lift station upgrades on Pike’s Lane; and
  • $439,000 for water and sewer and road improvements on Gully Path Road in the Town of Victoria and an additional $142,000 for a water main extension on Gulf Avenue.

Funding for the projects in the Town of Carbonear is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the funding and the Town of Carbonear providing 20 per cent. For the Town of Victoria, the Provincial Government is providing 90 per cent of the funding with the Town of Victoria contributing the remaining 10 per cent.

Between 2008 and 2013, the Provincial Government has invested $650 million in water, wastewater, recreational and municipal infrastructure projects.

As part of investments through Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
