Support for Rural Fire Services
District of St. Barbe Receives $40,000 to Support Fire Services
The Provincial Government is investing over $40,000 to enhance firefighting capabilities in the District of St. Barbe. The funding will be used for the purchase of firefighting equipment for communities throughout the district.

The Provincial Government recognizes the important work carried out day and night by dedicated women and men who give of their time to the fire service. Without their commitment, communities would not have the level of protection they have today.”

Communities receiving funding are Trout River, Daniel’s Harbour, Pigeon’s Cove-St. Barbe, Rocky Harbour and Port au Choix. The equipment for each community will be cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the communities providing the remaining 10 per cent. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes $5 million in fire vehicle and equipment funding. Since 2003, the Provincial Government contributed to the purchase of over 125 emergency response vehicles for communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
QUICK FACTS
- Over $40,000 in funding will be used to purchase equipment including new pagers, paging systems and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Trout River, Daniels Harbour, Pigeon’s Cove-St. Barbe, Rocky Harbour and Port au Choix.
- Through Budget 2014, over $5 million is being invested to support fire protection services and the purchase of equipment and vehicles across the province.
- There are approximately 5,900 volunteer firefighters supporting approximately 272 fire departments province-wide.
