Responsible Investments in Communities

$2.9 Million Investment Will Benefit Communities in the District of Humber East

An investment of $2.9 million in cost-shared capital works funding will provide improvements to streets and sidewalks, upgrades to water and sewer systems, new recreational infrastructure, and new fire protection equipment for the District of Humber East.

The following is a breakdown of the $2.9 million investment:

  • $2.7 million in multi-year capital works funding for the Town of Pasadena which will be used for the purchase of a water treatment monitoring system, upgrades to the town depot, street reconstruction, lift station upgrades, the replacement of lagoon compressors, cross walk crossing control, and a splash pad;
  • $150,000 for the upgrade of Mountainview Road and Lady Diana Crescent in the Town of Massey Drive; and,
  • $28,679 for the purchase of four self-contained breathing apparatuses for the volunteer fire department in the Town of Steady Brook.

As part of investments through Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.

QUICK FACTS

  • $2.9 million in cost-shared funding is being invested in capital works projects and fire protection equipment in the District of Humber East.
  • Funding for the projects in Massey Drive and Steady Brook are cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the communities covering their ten per cent share.
  • Funding for the multi-year investment in Pasadena is being cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the funding and the Town of Pasadena providing 20 per cent.
  • As part of investments through Budget 2014, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Through Budget 2014, over $5 million has been allocated to support fire services, equipment and vehicles throughout the province.
