“Communities in rural Newfoundland and Labrador require access to modern equipment and vehicles to serve and protect residents and families. - The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-NL
The Town of Pilley’s Island will cost-share the purchase of a new rural rescue unit, valued at $125,500. The Provincial Government will provide 90 per cent of the funding and the municipality will cover the remaining 10 per cent. This versatile, self-contained truck and pumping apparatus has foam capability, a 300 gallon water tank and is ideal for fire departments in smaller communities.
In addition, over $58,000 is being provided to the towns of Triton and Robert’s Arm for the purchase of fire protection equipment.
“The volunteers who serve in the District of Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South are dedicated to maintaining the safety and well-being of residents and families in the area. It is the hard work of these volunteers that has made this announcement possible today, and I look forward to working with the councils and fire departments as they complete the purchase of these important firefighting tools.”
