Responsible Investments to Enhance Communities

$3.3 Million to Improve Municipal Infrastructure in Baie Verte - Springdale

The Provincial Government is committed to investing in projects which deliver benefits to residents including new facilities, road upgrades and water and sewer infrastructure. Today, the Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, was joined by Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte - Springdale, to announce $3.3 million in cost-shared capital works funding for the District of Baie Verte - Springdale.

By upgrading roads and water and sewer services, we are ensuring residents have access to improved services. Enhancements to fire halls and town halls, where our many volunteers carry out their work, are essential parts of building and strengthening communities.”

Investments in the District of Baie Verte - Springdale include:

  • $2 million for water and sewer, storm sewer and paving work on Bayview Road, Hemlock Road, Simm's Road, Normore's Road, Forest Road, and Whitehorne's Lane, and the purchase and installation of flow meters in the Town of Springdale;
  • $500,000 in additional funding for the fire hall/community centre in the Town of Baie Verte;
  • $350,000 for the initial phase of water and sewer extension in the Town of Burlington;
  • $302,000 in additional funding for the new town hall in the Town of Fleur de Lys; and
  • $146,000 for street paving of Wells Road, Captain’s Lane and Circular Road in the Town of Little Bay.

As part of investments through Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.

QUICK FACTS

  • A cost-shared investment of $3.3 million is being made in capital works projects for the District of Baie Verte - Springdale.
  • Funding for the multi-year investment in Springdale is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the community providing 10 per cent.
  • Funding for the projects in Baie Verte, Little Bay, Burlington and Fleur de Lys are cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the towns covering their 10 per cent share.
  • As part of Budget 2014 investments, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
