Strategic Investments Benefit Communities and Families

$1.2 Million in Capital Works Funding Announced for Bonavista South District

The Provincial Government is joining with the towns of Bonavista, Elliston and Trinity Bay North to provide $1.2 million in cost-shared funding for important infrastructure projects in the region.

“Our government believes in making strategic investments in municipal infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Recognizing this, $1.2 million will be allocated to fund water improvement projects and a new bridge cost-shared with various towns in the District of Bonavista South.”

The following is a breakdown of the $1.2 million investment:

  • $790,000 to complete a water distribution system analysis and finalize necessary upgrades to the water system in the Town of Bonavista;
  • $338,000 for a new bridge in the Town of Trinity Bay North; and,
  • $97,000 to upgrade the pump control system and leak detection system in the Town of Elliston.

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, allocates $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.

QUICK FACTS

  • The Provincial Government is joining with the towns of Bonavista, Elliston and Trinity Bay North to provide $1.2 million in capital works funding.
  • Funding for the projects cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the funding and the Town of Bonavista providing 20 per cent. For the towns of Elliston and Trinity Bay North, the Provincial Government is providing 90 per cent of the funding, with the towns contributing the remaining 10 per cent.
  • Budget 2014 allocates $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
