Investing Responsibly for Families and Communities

$1.4 Million to Support Capital Works Projects in the District of Terra Nova

The Provincial Government is committed to partnering with communities to strengthen infrastructure throughout rural Newfoundland and Labrador. Recognizing this, $1.3 million will fund a number of projects, cost-shared with communities throughout the District of Terra Nova. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, made the announcement in the Town of Gambo today along with the Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Terra Nova.

Funding for these projects is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the local communities covering their ten per cent share.

The following is a breakdown of the $1.4 million investment:

  • $378,000 for water and sewer upgrades in the community of Happy Adventure;
  • $376,000 for road improvements and upgrades in the communities of Hare Bay, St. Brendan’s, Glovertown and Traytown;
  • $336,000 including $296,000 for asphalt resurfacing of Church Road and $40,000 for supplemental work associated with a previous waste water study in the Town of Gambo;
  • $223,000 for a backup generator for the Station Road pumphouse in the Town of Glovertown; and
  • $43,000 for upgrades to the Eddie Eastman Hall in the Town of Terra Nova.

As part of Budget 2014 investments, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
