Improving Local Infrastructure

$2.8 Million Invested in Capital Works Funding for Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s

The Provincial Government is joining with the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s, to provide nearly $2.8 million in cost-shared funding to upgrade water and sewer servicing in the community. The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, made the announcement today. The minister was joined by the Honourable Dave Brazil, Minister of Service NL and MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island, and Moses Tucker, Mayor of the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s.

“We continue to invest in important municipal projects to meet the infrastructure needs of communities across Newfoundland and Labrador. Through this $2.8 million in multi-year capital works funding, we will support water and sewer system enhancements and improved reliability for the residents of Portugal Cove-St. Phillips.”

Projects being funded through this multi-year capital works allocation include water servicing on Skinners Road and water and sewer servicing for Drover Heights, Indian Meal Line and Franklyn Place.

Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s is one of 22 communities who receive a multi-year capital works allocation. This funding is provided to support larger projects in the province’s bigger municipalities for a three-year period between 2014 and 2017.

As part of investments through Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
