The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, announced today that the Provincial Government is now accepting applications from organizations interested in sponsoring projects funded under the Community Enhancement Employment Program.

Through the Community Enhancement Employment Program, $5.7 million is being invested to fund important enhancements to our communities, and also to provide assistance for residents in qualifying for employment insurance benefits.”

The Community Enhancement Employment Program provides funding to community-based organizations that sponsor and manage projects. Eligible sponsors include towns, Inuit community governments, regional municipalities, local service districts, community and economic development organizations and other non-profit organizations. Individuals can be employed for up to 400 hours in order to become eligible for employment insurance benefits.

“I strongly encourage community-based organizations to apply and to take full advantage of this program. In 2013, 234 projects received funding through the Community Enhancement Employment Program, resulting in employment for 1,503 individuals.”
