Investing in Recreation Benefits for Communities and Families

Additional $887,000 Allocated for New Campia Gymnastics Regional Facility

The Provincial Government is contributing an additional $887,000, cost-shared with the City of Mount Pearl, towards the construction of a new regional gymnastics facility. The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, was joined by community leaders, families and local athletes to make the announcement during a recent Campia Gymnastics banquet.

“As a government, we understand the need for access to world-class recreational facilities. This $887,000 in capital works funding will contribute significantly to the health and well-being of our residents. The new Campia Gymnastics recreational facility in Mount Pearl is just one more example of our commitment to making strategic, responsible investments in our communities, which will facilitate quality recreation programming for families.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

The $887,000 cost-shared investment is provided through the 2014-17 multi-year capital works funding allocation to the City of Mount Pearl. The Provincial Government will contribute 70 per cent of the funding with the remaining 30 per cent covered by the City of Mount Pearl. Construction on the new facility is expected to be completed by 2016.

“I am glad to see continued progress on this new recreational building. Not only will this funding provide residents with access to a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility, it will also promote healthy, active lifestyles and will allow the club‎ to host regional and provincial events.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Topsail

This funding is in addition to the previously announced $1.8 million, which included $1 million cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the City of Mount Pearl and the remainder coming through the fundraising efforts of Campia Gymnastics.

“I am pleased to see investment in this important recreational facility in the City of Mount Pearl. I thank the Provincial Government for providing the additional funding which will support the ongoing project and for the foresight to see the value that this facility will provide for years to come."
