Investing in Stronger Communities

$1.4 Million for New Bay St. George South Multi-purpose Facility

In partnership with the community of Bay St. George South, the Provincial Government is committing over $1.4 million through Budget 2014 for the construction of a multi-purpose facility which will include a new fire hall. The announcement was made yesterday by the Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, who was joined by the Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for St. George’s - Stephenville East.

“Our volunteer firefighters provide an essential service to our residents and communities and as a government, we certainly assist wherever possible. It is important that these brave women and men have the proper facilities they need to do their job, and this $1.4 million investment in a new building will support these efforts long into the future.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

Funding for this project is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the community of Bay St. George contributing the remaining 10 per cent. The fire hall will have a two-bay garage to service three vehicles. In 2012 the Provincial Government provided $120,000 for engineering design work related to the project.

“I am pleased to see this investment by the Provincial Government which highlights the importance of safety to the residents in the area. This new facility will accommodate the volunteer fire department as well as the local service district office. I would like to thank the local fire brigade and local service district for their ongoing efforts to help bring this project to fruition.”
- The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA St. Georges - Stephenville East
