Enhancing Fire Protection Services for Communities

Applications Invited for Firefighting Equipment and Vehicles

The Provincial Government is inviting municipalities and local service districts to submit applications for firefighting equipment and vehicles. The new application process will provide Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) with information about the municipality or local service district and the firefighting equipment or vehicle being requested to determine eligibility for funding under these programs.

“This new initiative will greatly improve the Provincial Government’s evaluation process for awarding municipalities with new fire protection vehicles and equipment. By implementing a deadline of March 31, government is now in a better position to review all requests together to determine which municipalities and regions are in greatest need for vehicles and equipment. Other key factors which will be taken into consideration are whether these requests support sharing or regionalization of fire protection services.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador

Upon receipt of an application, FES-NL will evaluate and recommend the type and quantity of the most suitable equipment to meet fire protection needs. During this evaluation, FES-NL may suggest alternate forms of equipment and vehicles which may not be specifically identified in the completed application.  Preference will be given to projects which have a regionalization component.

Applications are now being accepted for the Firefighting Equipment and Vehicles Programs with a deadline of March 31, 2014. Application forms and guidelines for the programs are available as follows:
