Public Advisory: Storm Surge Conditions Anticipated for Province

In an effort to ensure public safety, Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) is advising residents to be cautious around coastlines and waterways over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Officials with Environment Canada have issued a storm surge warning for the southern Avalon, Burin Peninsula and Connaigre Peninsula to Port aux Basques. High waves and pounding surf activity for these areas are expected to produce elevated water levels that could impact the coastline and associated infrastructure.

FES-NL encourages residents to be mindful of these conditions that are forecast over the next 24 to 36 hours and avoid coastal areas if at all possible. Conditions may be extremely hazardous and emergency management officials advise the public to use extreme caution.

Residents are reminded to follow the latest weather forecast at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca Opens in a new window for further warnings and advisories from weather experts and take measures to ensure personal safety is top priority.
